Monkey Mountain

On Saturday we took a trip to
Kam Shan Country Park

AKA - Monkey Mountain -
Here HUNDREDS of wild monkeys
have free reign
over the tropical forest.

None of us had any idea what to expect
on our visit
and we were a little nervous.

We, very thoroughly, read the
'Protect yourself from monkeys'
guidelines posted at the front of the trail.

These warnings intensified our fears.

Guideline number 3 scared us most.
"Don't look the monkeys in the eye."

JUST as we finished reading we looked
up to our right to find
two monkeys sitting on the railing
above us.

SERIOUSLY?!
We thought we were going to have to
go in search of monkeys.
But they were RIGHT THERE
waiting for us!!!

We climbed the steps to get a closer look.

Let me share our thoughts as
we journeyed across
the bridge passed the monkeys.

"Walk s-l-o-w and steady.
Don't make any sudden movements.
I am relaxed so the monkeys will
be relaxed.  DO NOT make eye contact."

"If I don't look at them they
won't look at me.
I am moving carefully and slowly."

"I'm not looking, not looking.
Look straight ahead.
Walk slowly, slowly and stay relaxed."

"Still not looking.
Kelsey!!  Do NOT make eye contact!"

We made it passed safely.
THANK GOODNESS for
the guidelines and self-talk!

While traveling down the trail
leading to the reservoir we
spotted a monkey in a tree
at a distance.
(THANK GOODNESS!)

"MY what BIG TEETH you have!"

As we continued down the trail
another group was coming toward us.
They were being followed by
a HERD of monkeys
(because they were feeding them peanuts)
and they lead the herd right to us.

I know EXACTLY what this man is thinking
"Don't look them in the eyes".

It was quite amazing to suddenly
be surrounded by 15-20 monkeys.

They were all fairly small.

This little guy in the video below
we lovingly named "Oliver"
because he was quite the little beggar.

After  several minutes Oliver moved on

and so did we.
(Still not making eye contact.)

Down the road we found a group of
about 40 monkeys in and around a
great big banyan tree.

They were eating.

fighting

and sleeping.

Here are my own little monkeys!

What an AMAZING trip to
Monkey Mountain!

The Tram to The Peak!

On Friday night we took THE TRAM
to The Peak

Up until the late 1800's

this was the mode of transportation to the top.

While we were waiting in line
we looked at
beautiful displays of
the way things were when the tram
made it's first run in May of 1888.

The arrival of our car.

The climb was steep.

We were at a complete 45 degree angle
for most of the 10 minute ride.

Once we reached the top
we went to Bubba Gump's.

A yummy shrimp restaurant

with an AMAZING view.

After a great meal we made our way to the roof
for an even better view
of the lights of Hong Kong.

Shanghai St., The Jade Market and MORE Sham Shui Po

More shopping discoveries!!

Shanghai Street

AKA - The restaurant district

Where they sell EVERYTHING you
can image for a restaurant or kitchen.

My purchase - cake decorating bags and tips
all for the bargain price of $5 US.

I was also tempted by this store.

Next up ...

The Jade Market

The place was packed with all things
made of jade.
Jewelry
Figurines
Plates

And last on the agenda -
another visit to Sham Shui Po.
The "My Kind of Shopping" place.

On this trip I found ...

FABRIC!!!

Rolls and rolls of fabric.

Zippers

And more buttons!

I HEART Sham Shui Po!!!
