BIG Thanksgiving Feast

We had our BIG Thanksgiving Feast

the Saturday after Thanksgiving

since Thursday, Nov. 24 was not a Holiday

here in Hong Kong.

THE SET-UP

The kid's room.

Nov. 26th was

one of our little friend's 

3rd Birthday so we used balloons 

as the centerpieces.

We used the Living Room and

Dining Room for adult seating.

THE FOOD

After set up was complete it was time to

pick up the turkeys.

I pre-ordered them, cooked by Art (man's name), 

in the local grocery store's meat department.

LOOK at those price tags!!!

$900 HK ($115 US) EACH

and we ordered two.

THE PEOPLE

There were 85 who attended.

For a few it was their FIRST 

Thanksgiving - since they are not from

the U.S. and don't celebrate this holiday.

Now it's time for CLEAN-UP :)

There's SO MUCH to be THANKFUL for!

It was a HAPPY Thanksgiving!!

Thanksgiving Dinner Prep.

You MUST be resourceful when

you are living in a foreign country

and don't have the things you

are used to having.

The more I think about it I realize

it's not living in a foreign country 

that has made me resourceful, 

I get it from my MOM.

It's one of the GREATEST lessons she

taught me - Be creative with what you HAVE and

make it work for what you NEED.

My NEED - a buffet or drink station

for the 50 guests that will be joining us for

THANKSGIVING DINNER

at 5:30 today.  Here is my solution.

MATERIALS

The two bedside tables from my master bedroom,

An, already cut to fit, sheet of plywood 

I got from the garbage bin

of the house being remodeled two doors down.

(I learned THIS from my Mom too - 

One man's trash is another man's treasure so 

be sure to LOOK at their trash.)

ASSEMBLY

Place plywood on top of tables.

Cover with BEAUTIFUL

from Sham Shui Po.

ACCESSORIZE!

With -- LAMP that is usually used on the bedside table,

-- Handmade GIANT felt leaves,

and -- Homemade Pumpkins borrowed from a friend.

RESORCEFULNESS --

It's an AMAZING thing!!!

Thanksgiving DAY in Hong Kong

We went to lunch with Fred

and had traditional Cantonese Chinese food.

DIM SUM

After lunch Caleb, Josh and I

went to the ICC building - 

the tallest building in Hong Kong

and the forth tallest building in the world.

We purchased tickets to ride to the 100th floor.

100 floors in 1 minute.

60 seconds later...

we were on top of the world.

Exploring a HK Cemetery and Victoria Harbor

We have driven by this cemetery many

times and always wanted to explore it.

It is located in Happy Valley

across from the Hong Kong Jockey Club.

We planned to see a horserace on 

Wednesday night so we went early

to see the cemetery.

A cemetery with a COOL view of the city.

While we were in the cemetery

Fred called with some bad news.

He tried to order us tickets to the

horseraces and found out they do not admit

children because of gambling.

We were disappointed, but at least 

we got to see the stadium

and a horse.

We changed our plans and met

Fred near his office for  

a Mongolian BBQ dinner

and went to Victoria Harbor

to view the laser light show.

Our Friends take us to the Philippines!

Since we didn't make it to the Philippines

last weekend our friends,

the Lau Family,

brought the Philippines to us!

They posted a sign in Tagalog which,

when translated, reads...

"WELCOME 

we are so happy to have you 

in the Philippines."

They turned their TV into 

Finding Nemo's aquarium

and greeted us with leis and hugs at the door.

Maribel, the Lau's helper who is from the Phillipines,

made us YUMMY Filipino food.
