Celebrating 170 Years

Bloom Where You're Planted
was the theme for this year's
Discovery Bay Relief Society Birthday Party.

Relief Society is celebrating 170 years!
The organization began on March 17, 1842
in Nauvoo, Illinois.

We celebrated with FUN decorations,

YUMMY food,

and card making.

My favorite part of the evening was
Quennie's spiritual message.
She is a sister from the Philippines and
has been working in HK for 4 years as a helper.
She began her talk by saying when she
first began attending the
Discovery Bay Branch she felt like a
bud, not yet open, among beautiful flowers
in full bloom.  She shared how she was
baptized into the church when she was
nine but never knew the true meaning
and joy of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
She said Relief Society in DB Branch
has helped her bloom and grow.
She has learned that
"Relief Society is RELIEF from ignorance."
The message was powerful.

Each sister went home with a flower
to remind them to
BLOOM where they are planted.

It is a lesson I have learned much
more deeply living in Hong Kong.
