Hong Kong International District Girls' Camp 2012

Camp Theme: "Reach for the S.T.A.R.S.

Serve Together And Really Shine"

Held from Friday, March 16th -

Saturday, March 17th.

All packed and ready to go!

Excited to spend the weekend at

Girls' Camp with MY Haleigh Bug.

Fire-building to cook the potatoes for dinner.

Dinner by lamplight: Campfire Baked Potatoes

with various toppings.

For the camp service project the girls

made leprosy bandages.

They did a great job learning to crochet

and some seemed to enjoy it.

We certified fire-building,

knot tying,

first aid

and water purification.

Fire-building seemed to be the favorite.

While on the hike, the girls read letters written

from their parents. It was an emotional

experience for most of them.

After our hike we returned to find THIS

at the entrance of the campground.

Another Girls' Camp come and gone.

With each passing year I am ALWAYS

amazed at the POWER of

Young Women's Camp.

A SIDE-NOTE: The FUN of Girls' Camp

--The Camp T-Shirt--
We made these shirts at Camp Kick-off
one month before camp.
The process is simple and the results
are AWESOME!
The girls had fun doing it and
the bonus - they learned a new skill.

How to: -Cut star shapes in varying sizes
out of clear contact paper.
-Stick stars to shirt
(make sure they are really stuck
to the fabric so you get a 'crisp' shape)
-Insert a piece of cardboard
(I used a plastic tray)
up the inside of the shirt
to prevent the bleach from
seeping through to the back
of the shirt.
-Spray shirt with a solution of
1 part water 1 part bleach.
-Let the solution sit for approximately 1 min..
The longer it sits the more rust colored it gets.
-Rinse shirt in cold water to stop the
bleaching process.
-Remove star shapes.
-Put shirts through a wash cycle
in the washing machine.
-Let shirt dry and
wear with PRIDE :)
