Michael Buble Concert - LIVE!

How LUCKY am I that after a

few short days of being in Hong Kong

MY LOVE got us tickets to see

the ONE, the ONLY

MICHAEL BUBLE!!!

The concert was held at the Hong Kong Convention Center.

Located right on the shore of Hong Kong Island.

Overlooking the skyline of Hong Kong Island

and Victoria Harbor.

It was AMAZING!!!!

from the UK whom we met 

while waiting in the taxi line.

**Being 20 minutes late for the concert 

because of traffic and getting

there to find the concert hadn't 

started yet. (Whew!)

made us both homesick (in a good way).

A Visit to the Site for Girls' Camp

After 7 years of camping as a Young Woman

and 16 years of Girls' Camp as a leader

I am THRILLED to be helping with

the FIRST Girls' Camp EVER 

in the Hong Kong District!!

Camp will be held March 18 & 19.
(NEXT Friday & Saturday!!)

In preparation for this GREAT adventure 

we went to check out the campsite this morning.

I was VERY pleasantly surprised!

We disembarked the bus from Tung Chung &

crossed the street to find a
quaint picnic spot.

A carved tree greeted us with a
profound little message

"Fake becomes true

It depends on you."

Another carving marked the entrance
to the campsite.

We traveled down the winding steps and a 

150 foot path to find...

This pleasant little spot for camping!

Fully equipped with tables, fire pits, 

a small pavilion,

and bathrooms - with flushable toilets (yeah!).

I am used to watching out for wild animals at Girls' Camp.

Bears, snakes, and the like.

This year our biggest threat are
the wandering cows

and dodging the treats they leave behind.

We can call for emergency assistance if needed

AND in a REAL emergency ...

a helicopter can fly in to rescue.

Ready or not HONG KONG --

English Lesson

We attend church in an International School.  Relief Society is held in a 4th grade classroom.

As I was setting up for my lesson yesterday there were three random words written on the board.

pause

paws

pose

The word grouping didn't make 

sense to me at first.  

Of course I got the PAUSE and PAWS - 

but what was up with POSE??

Then it hit me ...

the children here are taught "proper English".

Most expats are from the UK or Australia.

If said in proper English form 

pause, paws & pose 

are all THREE homonyms. 

(Try it with your BEST English accent!)

It made me smile.

The Little Island of Peng Chau

Saturday morning we made a trip to 

Peng Chau.   A tiny island just South of Lantau.

Our plan was to explore.

After a 45 minute wait we boarded the 

old ferry for a 15 minute ride.

It was much different than the ferries 

we usually take.

The fare is collected during the ride rather than

paying at the gate and the boat was much smaller.

It did provide great views though.

While exploring Peng Chau we found ...

Lots and lots of bikes.

We wanted to buy some in a second hand store

but the shopkeeper said "No sale!"

when Fred asked the price, which was

clearly posted on each bike.

Discrimination??

Apartments on top of shops.

Hanging laundry - no sale!

Makeshift stands with umbrellas stacked on

top of each other to provide a shelter.

Fresh meat ...

hanging OR soaking in red tubs.

And many retired boats. 

The Hong Kong Temple and Mong Kok

Fred and I made a trip to the 

Hong Kong Temple.

Located in Kowloon Tong.

I missed the 2:30 ferry from DB so we arrived late for the 4:00 PM session.

Even though we were late we planned to do 

other work on family names.

We entered the gates and tried to go 

through the doors.  They were locked.

A cleaning lady saw us and told us the temple 

closed from 3:50 - 5:45 everyday.  

We chose to come back another day, rather than

wait the hour and 15 minutes. 

Even though we did not get to "attend" the temple, it was amazing to find that no matter where you are in the world, when you stand in holy places you can feel peace and comfort.

Fred decided to take me to see Mong Kok.

This is one of the places he goes SHOPPING for GREAT stuff at GREAT prices.

What a find!!

There were all kinds of FUN things.

We took a break from shopping for some 

much needed, YUMMY

American food!!!

They had a touch of Chinese on the menu as well.

It was a great trip!

I came away with a cute new pair 

of black flats (shoes)

only costing me $6 US dollars.

We WILL go back!!

My morning walk

My friend, Ai, who is from Japan,

invited me to go with her on a walk this morning.

We began on a paved round and walked to 

the "Rock Pool".

This is where Discovery Bay Branch
performs their baptisms.

It is a BEAUTIFUL spot.

From there the road turned into a trail

as we began to climb the mountain.

The trail turned into steps -

carved from the rock in the mountain.

It was a long a steep climb 

(and I will be sore tomorrow).

But the view was well worth it!

TWO roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
