The Lama Temple

Our THIRD day in Beijing, Sunday,

was a much slower paced day.

We attended church at 8:30 am

in a branch much larger than the one

we attend in Discovery Bay.

From there we visited the Lama Temple.

Once a residence for the son of the Emperor.

In 1735 it became a monastery for

Tibetan Buddhist monks.

Our ticket to enter 

with a souvenir CD inside.

Incense stores line the streets of the temple.

It is one of the few ancient Chinese buildings

to have survived the Cultural Revolution.

It is home to the largest standing Buddha

carved out of one piece of wood.

The remainder of our day was spent resting 

at Holiday Inn Express.
